Lies hold up and stand strong until Truth arrives – as late as he is – to
make the final stand. The liar and the truth-teller, the cowardly and the
brave, the protagonist and the antagonist, are enemies with different names.
A lie is comforting reassurance against the
scandalizing Truth, who comes uninvited and late to the party of discussion,
ending all discussion, and driving out the liars, ending a night of coquettish
joy and niceties; acknowledged honorably by the cowardly silent stare and the
admiring silent nod, of those who opted for neutrality either by cowardice or
detachment.
