SONNY'S
DEYBÄJA
The Jallabi is naturally rootless, not really
belonging to the land that his ancestors inhabited. The Nubian is the man and
woman, boy and girl, of this stretch of the Nile in this blessed part of the
Saharan desert.
But the Nubian is no more. Instead there is the
Nubian who is "an Arab-African blend", or "who is a mixture of
everything" or "who is an Arab and that's that". This is the
same Nubian of yore, whose culture is Arabic only in the linguistic sense, and
whose African disposition gives him to persistent rejection by Arabs and to
Arab racism.

What is our punishment for being a non-people?
That we become a global people, who care about
everyone's issues but ours. We are die-hard Palestinian solidaritists, we know
a lot about the India-Pakistan conflict, we know and appreciate al-Mutannabi's
works, and pine for al-Andalus (!) as
much as the Arabs do!
We screamed for Gaza and Syria and Iraq, and so
little did we scream for DARFUR, SOUTH KORDOFAN, THE SOUTH, THE EAST,
KAJBAR, THE ORPHANS ON THE STREET SMELLING SOLVENTS TO GET BY THE DAY, THE SAME
ORPHANS WHOSE ENTIRE EXISTENCE WAS BLOWN APART BY ANTONOVS HAILING BOMBS ON
THEIR ANCESTRAL HOMELAND!!!
What do we know about the horrors of the last 25
years? The ghost houses and the civil wars and the anti-glory of the Islamic
republic? So little, that we sound like a million people reiterating the same
tired soundbites at the same moment of time, soundbites that don't describe
anything – beyond our own ignorance and oblivion of what is not happening so
far away.
If the Jallabi knows anything about his own
country, he knows less about Africa. He uses the typical racist narratives on
West African countries like Sierra Leone and Liberia and others, even on South
Sudan!

A good Jallabi historian is a Nubian secularist
without exception. The experience of the Islamic state has failed in our own
country. To have Salafis ruling over you is a pure nightmare. But don’t ask any
Jallabi. Hassan al-Turabi – the Stalin of the Sudan – has called the Sudanese
people (read: Jallaba) “easily scared and quick to forget.” If he wasn’t right,
he wouldn’t have been able to rule over Sudan with an iron fist for 10 years.
Ask any Jallabi what happened on
2008, when Luis Moreno Ocampo put an arrest warrant on Omar al- Bashir on
counts of ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. There was a wave of
support for Omar al-Bashir, and a wave of hatred for Ocampo, who before his
charging al-Bashir, was not known in Sudan.
What they acknowledge today about
Darfur, they denied in 2004 as “western propaganda” – yes, the Jallabi on the
street! The crimes in Darfur were not mentioned in newspapers, instead, what
was mentioned was: this campaign against this militia and that rebel ended up
killing such number of militiamen and rebels.
Today, they scream it from the
rooftops, not because they care about the people of Darfur, but because they
hate the government, that is finally weak enough to leave power. They once raged
against the rebels, who were once monsters in their eyes, and they once praised
al-Bashir openly while cursing him in secret. Today, they curse the government
openly in the street. 2006, if you were there and you remember it.

What happens to a rootless individual, who
claims to be just Muslim, and claims that uniqueness of race does not really
matter? He will fear death 10 times out of 10, and for the sake of escaping
death he will submit to any humiliation and any insult and any evil that
overtakes his existence. And sooner will he leave his land than suffer in its
darkest hour. And sooner will he be genocided without letting out even a whimper.
And sooner will he be thrown off his land, because it is his playground and not
his life-giver, because the Nile is his postcard and the beginning point of his
house plumbing and the means to irrigating mass fields, and not his very own
source of life.
The Nile is nature. Nature is grateful to those
who find a place in it and honor its life-giving, but will punish those who go
against it and fight it, after a long and tired absence. The Niles gives life
to those who drink from it, and it will have you banished to the desert if you
reject it.
And without appreciating nature, as Leo Tolstoy
implies, you will be unhappy.

Where are the Nubian girls being celebrated on
Facebook images and on the Sudanese media? They have to hide their bodies,
their voice, their femininity for the sake of utter cowards who boast and
swagger and talk about manhood and masculinity all day; and are quick to
designate other men as "women" or "transsexuals".
A Sudanese woman cannot appear on camera.
Sudanese girls on Facebook put up an inanimate figure where their portrait is
supposed to be! And they accept this nonsense as "the fulfillment of
religion" (of which they know nothing).
Little wonder, the women resent their
predicament. But thanks to the evil monster Hassan al-Turabi and his
reinterpretation of Fiqh and Shariah, women can now work and make important
decisions in society. So she pushes aside the naturally submissive men and
takes swipes on their manhood. This is hell, everyone lives in it and everyone
hates it.
(Hassan al-Turabi has no problem having female
imams leading a mixed congregation, or leading a whole country, and believes
that she has no obligation to wear a hijab. He said that he searched the Quran
and Sunnah and didn't find any objections. I have done the same for hijab and
presiding a state, and found nothing to object to either.)
Women are freer to move around, but must submit
to the dress codes, otherwise the 40-lash punishment for indecent nonsense will
be applied, sadistically with great joy from the whip-holder. That is a typical
male Jallabi holding the whip, and not a "Köz" (a nonsensical word
that indicates that the Jallabi does not understand his country and its
problems).

"You get what you give" is a timeless
expression that the Jallabi will learn very painfully.
I wish only that the Jallab experience a bit of
what Darfur, the Upper Nile, the Blue Nile State and the Nuba Mountains went
through. They need it! To give up their misogyny and child molestation (which
is so rampant that you see its effects on the children's faces and
disposition), and to better lives than the dogs that they throw stones at (a
fine example of "mercy to animals").
Soon we will know, because the Republic of Sudan
is coming to an end, and what will take its place is militia rule, each militia
ruling a few neighborhoods in each city and setting up checkpoints on the
highways. Unless a General Sisi comes out of the military ranks and fulfills
the Great 25 Year Justice and the Great 25 Year Truthful Narrative.
There is a great secret that I cannot narrate
directly, but Nyala is Kadugli is Waw is Damäzïn is Khartoum, and what once
happened will happen again.
**
If the Jallabi does not belong to the Nile and
Africa, the Jallabi will belong to somewhere else far away, in another land, in
another continent, in tears, and in regret that he ever rejected his nature,
which is also his origin, an origin that does not change with thousands of
years of existence, and an origin that cannot be customized or philosophized
about.

Why should we build a civilization and live
noble lives?
The secret: for her
Tomorrow.
